Overview

London’s artful side From da Vinci to video installations: Visiting London’s museums is like a journey through the different art epochs. The best starting point is the National Gallery with some 2,300 works of art from medieval times to the 20th century. Next on the list: The Royal Academy of Arts, the renowned artists’ association that has been fostering painting, sculpture and architecture since 1768. Antwerp: past meets future A giant diamond, made of steel and glass, and sitting on top of a historic building – the “Port House” is the perfect symbol for Antwerp and its exciting combination of the old and the new. While visiting the Grote Markt or the Rubens House is like stepping back in time into the Flemish Renaissance, many new museums, for instance the Diamond Museum, offer very modern insights. Rotterdam: old masters, innovative architecture After the war, the much destroyed Rotterdam made a virtue out of necessity and bravely entered new terrain with regard to its architecture. Whether yellow cube houses or a market hall the size of an aircraft hangar – today, numerous unusual buildings dot the city and provoke in the positive sense. Art aficionados will marvel at the Bojimans Van Beuningen Museum where works of art from Rembrandt to Picasso and Rothko are to be found.
